Government of New Brunswick Digital ID Program

To register and access the Government of New Brunswick Digital ID Program online, you are required to accept the Terms of Use below. If you choose not to accept the Terms of Use, you will be unable to complete your registration and access the Government of New Brunswick Digital ID Program online.


1.  Introduction

You are about to register with the Digital ID Program. This will enable you to have secure access to Digital Services (“Digital Services”) provided by the following public entities:

a) departments within the Government of New Brunswick (“the GNB”);
b) post-secondary institutions, and other public bodies within the Province of New Brunswick;
c) municipal, provincial, territorial, or federal governments; and
d) any agencies, boards or commissions of each of the above.

The Digital ID Program offers access to Digital Services to New Brunswick citizens and requires you to provide or allow access to your personal information. This level of service will require you to have your Digital ID verified against GNB held records.


2.  User Registration

Registration for the Digital ID Program is limited to persons who may lawfully enter into and form contracts under the laws of New Brunswick. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, parent or guardian consent will be required for each person under the age of 18.

You are responsible for ensuring that your registration information is complete and accurate, and is kept current. Any false, inaccurate or misleading information will be considered a breach of these Terms of Use and may result in the commencement of a criminal investigation and/or prosecution of an offence.

You will keep your Digital ID login credentials secure and will be responsible for any unauthorized access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information that results from you not keeping your credentials secure.


3.  Personal Information Provided

GNB does not automatically collect any specific personal information from you, such as your name, phone number or email address.

The personal information you provide is collected under the authority of section 37(1) and 37(2)(a)(i) of the Right to  Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and will be used for the following purposes:

  • To register with the Digital ID Program and create an ID;
  • To register with one or more of the Digital Services; and
  • To authenticate your identity every time you chose to access one or more of the Digital Services.

Your personal information will only be disclosed as necessary to the department that administers your Digital ID, and to the public entities, referenced in section 1 “Introduction,” whose Digital Services you choose to register with and access.

Verification of Personal Information

The New Brunswick Digital ID program requires that you verify your Identity within 90 days of registration. In order to verify your Digital ID, you will be required to provide a select subset of your information as per your driver’s licence or New Brunswick identity card. The Registrar of Motor Vehicles (“the Registrar”) uses your driver’s licence or identity card information that you provide in order to initiate the verification against the records contained in the Motor Vehicle and Driver System (MVAD).

The Registrar collects the information in accordance with section 37(1) and 37(2)(a)(i) of the Right to  Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the section 85 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The Registrar may use the driver’s licence or identity card information to monitor and audit the issuing of the Digital ID and to conduct investigations if the Registrar were to receive complaints related to the issuing of your Digital ID. The operator licence and identity card information is maintained separately from your Digital ID information, is protected by AMVIR, and will not be released to any third party except when allowed or required by law.


4.  No Warranties

Digital ID is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, including warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. GNB does not warrant the accuracy or the completeness of the Digital ID Program or the Digital Services, nor that the Digital ID Program or the Digital Services will function without error, failure or interruption.


5.  Limitation of Liability

No action may be brought by any person against GNB for any loss or damage of any kind caused by any reason or purpose including, without limitation, reliance on the functioning of the Digital ID Program or the Digital Services.


6.  Discontinuance of Service

GNB may discontinue the Digital ID Program or the Digital Services at any time without prior notice.


7.  Remedies Available to  GNB

If you breach any of these Terms of Use, GNB, in its sole discretion, may take any steps that it determines are necessary, including but not limited to cancellation of your Digital ID.


8.  Purpose of Digital Identity Program

The Digital ID Program is provided for the sole purpose of allowing you to obtain a unique digital identification to enable you to access Digital Services and cannot be used for any other purpose.


9.  Deactivation

You may deactivate your Digital ID account at any time. If you do so, you will no longer have access to any Digital Services that you have enrolled in until you recover your account at a later date. To deactivate your account, please contact the Service Listed on the Contact US page.


10.  Amendments

GNB may amend these Terms of Use at any time. You will have the opportunity to review the amended Terms of Use and either accept the amended Terms of Use or deactivate your account. If you wish to deactivate your account, you may do so in accordance with section 9.


11.  Governing Law

These Terms of Use are governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws in force in New Brunswick, and you agree and submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New Brunswick.


12.  Linked Websites

The Digital ID Program or the Digital Services may contain links to third party sites. GNB provides these links only as a service and convenience, and does not take any responsibility for the content at the third party sites.
